Man's wrongful death at hotel leads to lawsuit in Ohio

When you're a construction worker, you face injuries every day. This woman is now suing for the wrongful death of her son. She believes that his injuries could have been prevented had the construction company taken the right precautions.

A woman in West Virginia, just across the border from Ohio, has said that her son was injured and later died due to a construction company's negligence. The company allegedly was negligent when using a canopy at a Holiday Inn Express, obstructing access from below the ceiling of the canopy.

Her son had been working with the company as an electrician on July 30, 2012. The man was trying to install light fixtures for a motel's front entrance canopy; the canopy was approximately 15 feet off the ground.

Because of the obstruction, her son had to move up the canopy to install the lights he was working on. The canopy then collapsed while he was working, causing the man to fall. Her lawsuit states that the construction company should have made the canopy strong enough not to collapse under the weight of a worker. Additionally, because of the man's initial injuries, he suffered pain and injury while being unable to enjoy his life. He died in October 2013, although the reason was not disclosed.

Her lawsuit has been filed in the Ohio Circuit Court against EAC Construction LLC. If her lawsuit is won, she's asking for damages with pre- and post-judgment interest.

If you've been injured or lost a loved one in a case like this, you may be entitled to compensation. You shouldn't be forced to pay for the medical needs and funeral costs of your loved one when they die due to negligence.
