Man killed in fatal workplace accident due to frost

In Ohio, you may have heard about this horrible report of a man killed while working in Potter County. The young 23-year-old was working in Youngsville, Pennsylvania, when the Caterpillar bulldozer he was using turned over on a hillside that may have been covered in ice or frost. The freezing weather may have caused the construction accident, according to the story.

The March 20 report states that the young man was trapped under the bulldozer when he was found by the property owner. It was around 7:30 p.m. when he was found due to his truck being on site with no equipment running. At that point, it's believed that he had been trapped for quite some time, and he was already deceased. The man called emergency services to the scene, but it's believed that the 23-year-old was killed almost instantaneously when he was thrown from the equipment and crushed beneath it.

The man was a co-owner of the construction company working on the scene. Their job was to clear the log road in Pike Township. When the incident was investigated, it was found that the 1970s bulldozer was in good condition and was well-maintained. However, it didn't have the modern safety equipment new models have, which would have had a harness or seat belt. This contributed to the man's death, according to the officials on the scene. The man's death has been attributed to blunt force trauma.

Construction sites can be dangerous, and like this story shows, one missing piece of safety equipment can mean the difference between walking away or being killed during an accident.

Those who have lost a family member because of a workplace accident may be eligible for workers' compensation benefits. In addition, if employer negligence played a role, the company could be held liable in a wrongful death claim.
