More than 200 Ohio residents died in a workplace accident in 2015

When Columbus residents go to work each day, they expect they will remain safe. Most of the time this is the case, but occasionally a fatal workplace accident occurs that changes a family forever. These accidents are often preventable and create a difficult situation for the victim's family.

In 2015, Ohio had 202 people who tragically died because of a workplace accident. This number is up nearly 20 percent from 2014 fatalities. The greatest number of workers died in transportation accidents. Contact with objects or equipment and falls or trips had the next greatest number of deaths. Together, these three categories accounted for nearly 75 percent of all workplace deaths in Ohio.

No one expects to die because of a fatal workplace accident. These accidents are unexpected and often preventable if an employer follows safety regulations. Families are devastated when their loved ones die unexpectedly and can lose a valuable bread winner and emotional partner. If a family has been hit with a workplace accident tragedy, they may want to speak with a legal professional who is skilled in workers' compensation. An attorney can investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident and help their client recover the damages they are entitled to under the law. Workers' compensation can help provide benefits for families or, if negligence is suspected, a wrongful death lawsuit may also be warranted.

A fatal workplace accident can happen in many different kinds of workplace settings. Although no amount of money can compensate a family for their tremendous loss, financial issues surrounding the loss can be resolved for the next of kin.
