Man in Ohio allegedly strikes down construction worker

On Behalf of | Nov 12, 2014 | Construction Accidents

When you head to your construction job, you could be working on the roads, in driveways or even on scaffolding above the heads of people in the city. In any case, you want to be safe and want people to be aware that you’re nearby. Sometimes, drivers in construction zones can be dangerous, and this case proves that.

In Moreland Hills, Ohio, a construction worker was struck by a car at around 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 5. The man had allegedly stepped into the road in an effort to stop traffic. He was trying to stop cars to allow two cement trucks on the site to back into a driveway where they were working. Unfortunately, a dark sedan did not stop when the man stepped into the road; the driver struck him, leaving him on the ground on Chagrin Boulevard as the driver drove away.

Fortunately, police were able to locate the hit-and-run driver. The driver was a 74-year-old man who claimed that he had to avoid hitting another car by swerving. When he did so, he believed he had hit a construction cone. The headlight was broken and windshield shattered on the man’s 2006 Bentley GT.

The worker suffered from a minor injury to his arm. He was treated for the injury at a local hospital. The police have cited the driver, but they also pointed out that the construction worker was not wearing a yellow traffic vest at the time of the accident. He was wearing his construction helmet, however.

Police reported that the man was cited for failing to control his vehicle and for leaving the scene of the accident. Likely due to the man’s age, he was also referred for the Ohio Department of Safety/Bureau of Motor Vehicles Vision Screening Referral test.

If you’ve been hurt in a situation like this one, you don’t have to face it alone. Speak with someone who understands your legal rights. You may be able to get compensation from multiple sources.
