How can you file a workers' compensation claim in Ohio?

You've been injured at work, but now you have questions about your compensation. How can you file your claim? Can you look it up after it's submitted? Who else can see your claim? How long will it take to get approved or denied? Those are all very good questions that you should have answered before you submit your paperwork to the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation.

Normally, you don't have to file your paperwork for your workers' compensation claim. The managed care organization does that for you. But, if you need to file your own, then you can by going online to the Bureau of Workers' Compensation's website or by filling out the First Report of Injury and mailing it to the Ohio BWC office.

Your workplace accident is documented once the paperwork goes through. Now, maybe you want to check the paperwork again once it's submitted or perhaps you need to change something on the form. You can look up your claim online or by contacting the BWC office. You will need your Social Security number to look up your claim.

You should know that you're not the only person who will be able to see your claims. Your representatives, employers, your employers' representatives and medical providers can view your claim, too, if they have your Social Security number.

If you have combined claims, remember that you can only see the remaining claim, not the original. You will be able to monitor your claim with your Social Security number, but it should be completed within 28 days according to the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation. At that point, it has to be accepted or denied.
