Do you know when you will need SSDI?

On Behalf of | Sep 5, 2013 | Qualifying For SSD/SSI Benefits

We sometimes forget that we are all only an accident away from becoming disabled. In Ohio today, some worker will get up and go to work, only to be injured on the job or merely driving to work. Others will visit a doctor and will be diagnosed with a condition that makes it impossible for them to continue working. At that point, the debate over funding the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) will no longer be abstract. For you and your family, it will really matter.

The SSDI program is facing real problems. The SSDI trust fund is projected to run out of reserves by 2016, meaning the program will be funded by the current payroll deduction receipts. However, the shortfall will mean that the Trustees of Social Security will need to reduce monthly benefit payments by about 20 percent.

This is because over the years Congress has made more medical conditions eligible for coverage under the SSDI program, but has been less forthcoming with adequately funding those conditions. The increased expense was not unexpected, as the Social Security actuaries have accurately projected the growth of the program.

Congress has lacked will to follow through and provide the necessary resources to fund program. If it does nothing, the Social Security Administration will be forced to implement cuts. We know how important these benefits are for thousands of disabled workers in Ohio, and we work with many of them helping them with their applications for SSDI benefits.

If you need assistance with your SSDI claim contact us, and we hope Congress acts to ensure disabled workers receive the benefits they need.
