Are young adults more likely to suffer injuries in the workplace?

Now that summer is here, young adults in Ohio and throughout the country are looking for summer jobs, allowing them to earn some extra spending money. And since the National Safety Council recognizes June as National Safety Month, it is time to address the safety issues that may arise when hiring part-time or temporary employees, especially when it is a first job for many of these people.

Two Ohio workers have to suffer through finger amputations

It can seem that too many Ohio workers that many state-based companies have been getting hit with workplace safety violations recently. Indeed, five Ohio companies have been hit with fines from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration in the last few months, with total fines exceeding $250,000. The silver lining is that hopefully the companies learn their lessons and take workplace safety more seriously.

Ohio to gain from AIG workers' compensation settlement

A settlement reached with American International Group will see some funds distributed to Ohio, as well as each of the other 49 states. The agreement is the result of a negotiation conducted with regulatory officials in 2010 that stemmed from a multi-state probe of AIG, examining whether the company had violated reporting rules for premiums on workers' compensation insurance.

Ohio steel facility hit with 19 health and safety violations

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration hit a steel products company with charges of repeated health and safety violations at its facility in northeast Ohio. The charges include proposed fines totaling $64,400.
