Workers' compensation benefits protected for NFL players

Workers' compensation exists to help ensure that employees receive the financial compensation they need if they are injured while they are working. In addition to providing immediate financial support with medical bills, workers' compensation can also help ensure that employees who are injured have the long-term financial support they need if their injuries impact their ability to return to work.

75 former players sue NFL over concussions, brain injurys

We have written a few posts about the brain injurys professional players may face when they suffer too many blows to the head. You may remember one post last April which described the mental health problems an NFL player struggled with after retiring from football.

Ohio officers working to reduce accidents in construction zones

The stretch of Interstate 75 that runs through Butler and Warren counties in Ohio is becoming notorious for slow traffic due to accidents. The Ohio State Highway Patrol has reported that, on average, in 2010 there were almost 2.5 wrecks every day on that stretch of road, which is only 19 miles long.

NFL players struggle to find doctors who accept workers' comp

Woman dies at desk; husband receives workers' compensation

There have been numerous studies published recently about the dangers associated with working a sedentary job. New research shows that sitting for six or more hours a day - regardless of how much physical activity you do after that - can lead to increased risks of early death.

Medicare set aside in Ohio Workers Compensation Claims

Core issue: The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), a part of Health and Human Services, is implementing policy relating to the Medicare secondary payor act resulting in substantial present and future challenges for the Ohio's workers compensation system. Under the Medicare secondary payor act any primary insurance payor is supposed to assume a central responsibility for paying medical bills - not transferring responsibility for those present or future claims and related billing to Medicare. So far so good. In Ohio, our present worker's compensation system is doing an excellent job of paying the primary medical bills and for the most part we've kept Medicare's interests clearly in mind and defended the spirit and letter of the set aside regulations. I believe Ohio has been a model partner to Medicare in this process.
