AT&T Employee Dies Pinned Against Cable Pole

On Behalf of | Sep 27, 2010 | Wrongful Death

Tragedy struck the home of one Columbus, Ohio worker early last week when the local man left for work but never returned. The 52-year old AT&T service employee was pronounced dead Tuesday morning after a homeless man found him crushed between his large service vehicle and a cable utility box.

The Ohio worker had been on duty near the east side of Hamilton Road in Columbus with orders to repair an AT&T distribution box. When emergency assistance arrived on the scene of the workplace fatality in response to a 911 call placed by the homeless Good Samaritan, they found the man lifeless and trapped against the pole.

Columbus police released information about the accident including the fact that when the man was found his vehicle had been parked in gear. The employee had been sent to the job site alone and with no witnesses to the event, there was no one who could help reverse the vehicle and dislodge his body or even call for immediate assistance.

The man had been scheduled to work at 6:30 a.m. but his body was not discovered until hours later. Police have been unable to confirm the precise time that the vehicle struck the man. Details have not been released as to whether he was killed instantly by the impact or if timely emergency attempts to rescue the man would have proved successful.

What is clear is that accidents can happen at any time we least expect them to. Many of these accidents occur while at work and often lead to serious injury or even death.
