Am I Too Young To Receive SSD Benefits?

When it comes to Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits, there is no rule that says younger workers cannot apply. In fact, as long as you have a work history, you may be eligible for SSD benefits if you are unable to work for at least a year because of your disability ― regardless of whether you are 25 or 55.

Age May Still Have An Impact

However, your age may still come into play if you apply for disability benefits. For example, the Social Security Administration (SSA) may determine that, given your younger age, it is easier for you to learn new skills and change careers should your disability make your current employment difficult. This can sometimes make the application and claims process an uphill battle, but not impossible.

Indeed, even though age may be a factor considered by the SSA, it is not the only factor. In addition, even if you are not entitled to SSD benefits, you may be able to collect other benefits, including Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Regardless of your situation, it is best to consult with an experienced SSD attorney should you have any questions about SSD benefits, SSI or Social Security Disability appeals.
