2 die in construction accident due to mechanical failure

On Behalf of | Jan 10, 2014 | Wrongful Death

In some cases, construction injuries can lead to serious pain and suffering. Many times, a wrongful death results from unsafe environments and industrial accidents. In recent reports, two people were killed on Jan. 8 during a construction accident in Montgomery County, Alabama. Ohioans might have heard about this horrible accident on the national news. Two people were left dead after a man-lift failed and caused them to fall more than 90 feet to the ground.

According to the story, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is now investigating the accident that cost the lives of the 63-year-old and 53-year-old men. Both of the men were employed by Bessember-based R.R. Dawson Bridge Company, according to the news, and had been working on the multimillion dollar Montgomery Outer Loop project, which is a bridge construction site. The site is located on Highway 80 East near the new overpass above Interstate 85.

Reports claim that the sheriff’s office is calling this an accidental death investigation at this time. The bodies have been taken to have autopsies done, and this will confirm the cause of death. The Alabama Department of Transportation has now temporarily suspended work on the construction of the loop while the situation is investigated. It may resume as early as the end of the week.

This accident may have been preventable if the machinery was in better condition. If you’ve lost a loved one due to damaged equipment or dangerous working conditions, you may be able to recoup some of the money you’ve had to spend on medical bills, funeral costs and other economic and non-economic damages. An experienced workers’ compensation attorney can provide valuable advice during this difficult time.
